Fishers Island is a small community that swells with seasonal visitors. The culture of the island is more Connecticut than New York, perhaps due to the fact that geographically the proximity of the island is closer to Connecticut, despite being a part of the series of land formations considered to be Long Island.
The permanent residents of the island generally reside on the west end of the island, where visitors and residents can find all of the amenities necessary for small-town life, including a bowling alley. Seasonal visitors often reside in one of many large, private estates. The Fishers Island Club hosts the Harbor Open Golf parade and golf tournament annually. The island is also home to the smaller Hay Harbor Country Club and the Fishers Island Yacht Club. Visitors will enjoy the many beaches available on the island for relaxation and entertainment.
